Liberty City Council - Ward One

When elected to the City Council in 2005, I made a personal commitment to pro-active responsible leadership. This means:

  • Citizen-friendly City Hall
  • Dynamic business districts
  • Vibrant neighborhoods

At each session of the City Council we may vote 10-20 times. Many are the routine decisions made by any organization or family. While each decision is important because it helps keep the City functioning, most are often considered routine. It is those sorts of votes that quietly maintain the safety and quality of living in Liberty .

Occasionally, the Council is called to make decisions that expand the quality of Liberty -- for citizens, employees and employers, students, and for business leaders. Here are a few of the actions taken by the City Council during my tenure I am especially proud of:

  • Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)
  • Improvement of the intersection of Glenn Hendren and Nashua
  • Approved annexation - Area A
  • Led the approval of state-of-the-art synchronization of traffic lights from Clayview to I-35 (and by working with Operation Green Light continuing west to Flintlock Road )
  • Approve a Memorandum of Understanding between IAFF Local 42 and the City of Liberty
  • Liberty is a smoke-free city for all businesses with employees and in public parks.

My future goals include:

  • implement the recommendations from the Liberty.... for All strategic visioning process
  • strengthen the various pods of business activity throughout the City -- especially encouraging locally-owned business
  • restore brick streets where possible in the older parts of Liberty
  • State Highways (other than MO 291) transferred to City control.  Specifically a prohibition of commercial trucks on MO-33/Lightburne Street. Heavy commercial trucks don't belong on narrow residential street in Liberty
  • Encourage the development of New Town at Liberty and its meshing with existing Liberty.
  • Sidewalks within one mile of public schools.

Liberty.... For All: The grassroots citizen strategic planning process that will pro-actively shape our City's future.

How may I serve you?

I recall one friend upset with something the City was considering. He came to the City Council meeting and started out with "I elect you people to be on the Council to make good decisions, so I don't have to come down here myself."

Anytime you have a concern or a hope for our City, I will try to be a good listener.
